All This Happiness

Do you also smell the smoke from spitting bonfires?

The freshly-cut cornfield that rustles no more?

Do you hear the yellow carpet crackling under a squeaky wheelbarrow?

The hundred geese ca-honking?

Do your eyes linger on the shimmering groves tucked among folds of fields?

The subdued grain and grasses?

Does your tongue tingle with spicy cinnamon, pumpkin, and cream?

The tartness of apples tinted with blush?

Do you feel the snappy air as your breath puffs away in the morning sun?

The tomato juice trickling down your arm?

All that snappiness mingles with happiness

And tumbles round in my soul

Like weed puffs and burr balls

And cart-wheeling children in mountains of leaves.

Doesn’t it do that to you?
