Autumn proves that change is beautiful. It also proves there is Someone who orchestrates change. God is at work in creation and He’s at work in us. Can we shrink from the uncomfortable changes and pain when exactly that could be where God wants to demonstrate His power and beauty through us?

What if leaves refused to die and fall? There would be no glorious autumn. May the Artist do His marvelous work.

Quietly the Artist stepped
Throughout His whole creation,
Painting autumn’s canvases
In skillful combination.
Coating fields with bronze, He poured
Some amber ‘cross the prairie;
And the molten gold He mixed
Enhanced the ordinary.
From the boldest crimson blaze
To softest silver blushes,
Stunning pigments splattered far
From ever-twirling brushes.
Next with frost the Artist iced
Each leafy twig—then sprinkled
Leaves till each one kissed the ground
And snow disguised their wrinkles.
