(Scribbled under shimmering trees in a moment of solitude.)
I am
an ant.
Just a jolly, shiny little fellow,
skittering across a leaf.
A crackly, golden leaf—one that only an hour ago sailed merrily to the ground.
The warm crumbly ground, where thousands of other contented leaflets lie.
Leaves that embraced the spring sun, twirled in summer’s breezes, and danced in tune to autumn wind.
Wind that playfully tugged at them, whispering, “Summer’s over; time to rest.”
Rest they do, reposed upon this quiet earth, where seasons come and seasons go.
Going to the hand of God, where He sets the times of earth and moon and sun.
Oh, the sun! It beams down upon my crackly leaf. I pause on my leaf,
wrapped in warmth, stillness, and delight.
Delight.
A delighted ant,
that’s what
I am,
An ant
on a leaf
in the woods.
It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, another little ant scuttling around from leaf to leaf. I need to learn from the jolly black fellow you just read about who sits on the golden leaf over yonder.
So today, I will also pause from my scurrying and get you a brief update on my life, basically with a few photos taken since my last post.
But first, a general update for context and to explain my silence: My daily life has changed significantly. I am now teaching highschool at our private school. Also, I’m preparing to leave for Bible School, returning home in time for Christmas. You ask how those two things work out together? I wonder too. But let’s just say God is directing my life. After a hall of closed doors, He opened one door to reveal another open one behind it.
Although I’m not giving up my writing, seasons do change and I currently have to be much more intentional to produce any articles worthy of sharing. Both teaching and studying take a lot of mental energy and time. So if there are periods of silence on my blog this winter, be assured I’m probably still somewhere on the earth with my face stuck in a book and hands speckled with ink. If you don’t find me, I just might be on the moon, checking off the 200th thing on my bucket list.

In closing, happy thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! Remember…
"What you take for granted, someone else is praying for."
