About

Hi, I’m Rynelle, literally born a Penner!

Unfortunately though, the meaning of my surname isn’t even related to being a writer. Instead, its origin can be traced to a hill where cattle were penned up. Should I be proud of that?

Usually you’ll find me somewhere among the wheat fields and evergreen trees of Manitoba prairies with my parents and four siblings. When I’m not helping customers at our family-owned store or chopping cucumbers in the kitchen, I’ll likely have either a leaky pen or a storybook in hand. If I’m still not to be found, I’ve likely fallen asleep in the woods with a stack of folded laundry beside me.

Somehow, words seem to be an inseparable part of my life. I devoured storybooks before I entered first grade. With a bookstore in the house, an appreciation for books and stories developed quite naturally! In first grade, I began writing my first book, but unfortunately I never had enough vision to get it published. While in middle grades, stories cluttered my desk. My spare time produced highly imaginative stories of accidents and disasters. In high school, one of my biggest problems with writing assignments was to get them short enough. I can’t say I’ve conquered that problem yet!

I started writing monthly stories for Shining for Jesus, a children’s magazine, in my early teens and I haven’t quit yet. I’m exploring my grandparents’ life story and hoping to place it on paper someday. Besides that and other occasional projects for publishers, I shifted away from fictional writing when realized I had so much to share through poetry and personal essays. I knew God had placed thoughts in my heart with the intention that I should express them. So I tried digging deeper.

Therefore, this blog is not about me. It is about my Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. My goal in this blog is only to share what He has already given, whether that is through stories, poetry, essays, or other random pieces. I cannot truly describe the fulness of God as portrayed in the ocean, His grace in a peony, His peace in a winter night, or His splendor in autumn colors, but I try. I cannot express the mystery of His omniscience, the glory of salvation, or the steadfastness of His love, but I make an attempt. Even once I am face to face with my Savior and have left all earthly hindrances behind, words will still not be enough.

But for now, I’ll continue scratching on with my leaky pen, and through God’s marvelous work, maybe a few of those drips can be an inspiration to you.

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”  1 Peter 5:10-11
