Floury Galaxies

God spoke.

The galaxies,

Like flour flicked from His hand,

Adorn the space of indigo

And glow.

-Rynelle Penner

Yes, it’s short.

Read it again.

One of my greatest struggles in writing is making my articles/poems too long. But this time, I made it short. This quote captures my problem well.

“I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter.”

-Blaise Pascal

But I’ll be honest, and show you a raw rough draft of this floury galaxy poem. I even gave this mess its own title, Humps and Lumps. This is actually how many of my poems come into being when I have the thoughts, but lack words.

HUMPS AND LUMPS

God sprinkled ‘cross the indigo space

A floury trail of stars.

He sifted each one through His fingers;

Then rolled out the humps of planets in their place.

He picked a lump from a hump

And shaped a MAN!

Its name was ADAM!

Cradling it in His hands,

He puffed the dust away

And blew His life inside.

And from the lump

There became more.

Now today two thousand years later,

The lumps He created,

Breathe and explore,

Gazing at the floury trails of stars,

Looking for footprints on Mars,

Forgetting that their breath originated

Not from aliens, but from God.

Forgetting that the Milky Way

Was created—not evolved.

And somewhere among all these lumps

On these humps

There bumped a WOMAN!

Its name was RYNELLE!

As it punched some dough on a countertop

And thought of God and the stars

And the floury trails of the galaxies,

It intended to write it out,

But when it tried to puff the dust off its brain

And make a poem,

It failed to express the intents of the heart.

So end these indescribable imaginations.

If you remember anything from this post, please remember this:

Your Creator made beauty out of nothing and life out of dust, so He is more than capable of transforming your messes into masterpieces.
